3D Systems’ Cube® Home 3D Printer Named Cool By Stuff Magazine

3D Systems Corporation announced today that its Cube home 3D printer made Stuff Magazine’s 2012 Cool List, coming in at #4 of their top 19 hottest products for the year. (19 not 20? OCD folks are going to be irked) Other 3D items of note. The LG' EM9600 3D TV came in at a respectable 9th place and the Leap Motion Controller , due out in December came in at #14.

The Cube home 3D printer is set to revolutionize home printing. Stuff Magazine suggests that “Just as Apple blew minds by introducing the concept of a 'home' PC in 1976, so it could be the Cube and 3D printing. It's not the world's first 3D printer, but it is the first to tempt our inner mad scientist, with a (relatively) low price tag and user-friendly touchscreen. Files for your plastic 3D objects can be downloaded online, and a forthcoming app will allow you to scan items with your Kinect. Whether you want to print spare parts for ancient furniture or create jewelry from the waveform of your favorite song, the Cube points a big, plastic arrow towards an exciting, personalized future.”

The Cube has been on the market for about a month now. It has a printing foot print of 5.5"x 5.5" x 5.5" and can be purchased at Cubify - Express Yourself in 3D for $1299. Color cartrigages are available for about $50 each.
