MakerBots new Desktop Digitizer promises to offer a complete 3D Scanning and printing environment.
The Digitizer has a scan volume of about 8 x 8 inches and works well regular artificial light. Simply place what you want to replicate on a turn table and fir up the supplie dMakwerware software and you can begin scanning. The Digitizer will spin he object while firing eye safe lasers at it. Those points are recorded, triangulated and made into a format that your computer can use. The Makerware program makes it easy to interface between the scanner and the printer as well as manipulate objects as needed.
