But, this is a problem for some people. Many would like to see a 3D Pokemon game released, so an independent developer (Nilllzz) did something about it. He has been unofficially developing Pokemon 3D!
The game is based on the world of Pokemon Gold and Silver (just admit, you had three copies of that game just in case you lost one. Or maybe that was just me...). Your character can walk around the environment just like a FPS. Sadly, Pokemon 3D is in the very early stages of development right now, but don't worry! You can download and play what’s been created already. Pokemon 3D has been received very well already - it shows how much demand there is for a retro FPS Pokemon game.
Of course, the rouge developer will probably get sued like crazy by Nintendo. Hopefully the game giant will embrace the idea, considering it would be a perfect game for the Nintendo 3DS and upcoming Wii U.
You can download the game here. It runs on Windows XP and newer operating systems, but requires the installation of both the .NET and XNA Frameworks if you want to experience the 3D beauty.
